Our institutions don’t ban Youtube / online content cos it is a moral issue in Pakistan but that of sharing of ‘power’ - economic and social. A generation that’s far more plugged in with the world at large - is able to circumvent the ideological and monetary boundaries set by the
state and is able to progress on its own, automatically - becomes a threat to the old guard. The same old guard that ensures that power of media, economy and sociatal change is restricted to a few hands.
Those of us, who grew up in pre-Musharraf to Musharraf era see it coming from a mile away. He was fine with people using the net as they deemed fine, until people used it against his regime - to stand up to him. That’s when we imported our first mass web traffic firewall.
It’s the same story that keeps on repeating.
The reality of business and specifically online business in Pakistan is that your investment will never be safe. Not because of a random event or even security situation - but because of our institutions. They’re the biggest impediment towards a stable governance policy.
For those, who are new to this, you’ll learn your lessons. Do as your predecessors did and don’t depend on either the government or state to safeguard your business interests. They exist for a select few. The world outside is far easier and more stable to work in, welcoming too.
An ex-SC judge once commented, when arguing with him over the YouTube ban, that you lot talk about first world processes in a third world country. So, yep, we are destined to remain a 3rd world country. :)
And please don’t talk of Youtube look alikes, I genuinely don’t know if to laugh or cry over that dead horse of a suggestion. :/

Our folks fail to realize that these are not meager platforms but entire ecosystems. But then again, that’s too much info for them to digest. :)
Sorry for the rant but fuck it makes one angry. Same old shit, no matter how many faces change. Same old of everything. Bloody f’n hell. Jab dil karay switch on, jab dil karay switch off. Idher hazaron/lakhon ki rozi roti jai, kisi kay baap ka kuch nahi jai ga.
