From August 1st what should be the plan for Chennai? My views in this thread.
1.Lockdown has been partial and relatively loose over the last 3 weeks. Yet CPR has stayed at below 10% or nearabouts.
2. Hospital occupancy rate for #covid has dropped significantly in Chennai.
3.Despite a relatively lax implementation policy on masks and little social distancing there has been no resurgence of cases in Chennai.
4.This shd give us confidence that the peak of the 1st wave may be behind us.
Time for Govt to start looking at the following
A. Open up public parks &outdoor spaces like the Beach etc. (they carry low risk with distancing)
B. Allow restaurants/tea shops to operate for dine in(with capacity limits)
C. Reopen malls with social distancing & compulsory use of masks
D. Open up places of worship with limits
E.Schools and Colleges continue to remain closed
F.Skeleton Public transport services could be started on trial basis to see if rules are adhered to.
G. Ban on meetings, public functions, large gatherings etc. to continue
H. Offices cd work with limited capacity as at present
I. Scrap epass for same day return travel from Chennai to nearby districts.
J. Allow ecommerce companies to deliver non essentials.
K. Continue the fever camps for the next month also
L. Increase testing further in Chennai to look for rise in cases and clusters
M.Ensure mask compliance with fines using Police.
N. Theatres, Clubs and bars should remain closed
O. Ease restrictions on timings of shops already allowed to operate
P.Make it clear to public that they still need to stay at home except for essential travel & work for now.
These may be cautious steps towards a new normal for now. Of course, masking, social distancing and hand washing continue everywhere and so does test, trace, isolate. Let me know your views.
