(thread) I just lost my internet during my comments to the CPS BOE. Here's a summary of my remarks:
I want to repeat CTU's call for school to start with remote learning this fall--we think that this is the safest course given the state of the pandemic.
The CTU has a series of questions about CPS plans that we need answered. Here's 4:
1.Who decides? Does the BOARD have the authority to make the decision whether and when schools open with remote learning, in person or with a hybrid, or does the mayor have that authority?
2. What are the criteria that will be used to decide about the re-opening or subsequent re-closure of schools? The WHO recommended that positivity rates stay below 5% for 14 days before reopening. Is that the standard we are using? What about testing, contact tracing, and etc?
3. The CPS plan calls for pods and social distancing to mitigate risk. What protects those who fall outside your risk mitigation system?
-specials teachers (Art, etc) who typically see every student in a school?
-clinicians who service several schools?
-early childhood?
-etc
4. Your plan calls for an increase in custodial services (less one per building) but what about all the additional needs in other areas, from nurses to counseling and social workers, who will be needed to address student needs in the midst of this pandemic?
