I detest the notion that @ShreveportMayor Adrian Perkins running for Senate is a waste of everyone's time. First and foremost: *We need to run candidates everywhere,* and I do mean everywhere. People drop out, resign, die, scandals can drop, you never know https://twitter.com/StephieTheLefty/status/1285962124217290752?s=19
2nd: Building a bench. Flipping a state doesn't just happen overnight. If you throw in the towel with every tough race, fail to get some names out there, you're never gonna be able to strike while the iron is hot. Giving a mayor statewide name rec is good for the bench.
3rd: We need a larger slate of POC - particularly African Americans - for Senate. All of our major candidates who ran are also based in the South, which is EXCELLENT on the off-chance any of them win. LA-Sen does already have Antoine Pierce, but Perkins is an elected. Big plus.
4th: Geographic diversity. Shreveport is an underrated piece of LA politics and is getting more of a say as it grows. It's part of how JBE won. For LA Dems, NOLA & Baton Rouge run the show. Why not bring in someone from elsewhere? It'd be like TX nominating someone from Beaumont.
Lastly: Louisiana, like Mississippi, is a state that can be competitive for us in the not too distant future thanks to AA + suburban growth. Why not prime that with a potentially strong run, actually TRY to win for once? Perkins could merge those two bases. Let him try.
And of course, this isn't to mention other factors at play. Perkins isn't up for reelection this year, so he's free to run wherever. JBE may have the leverage next year to get a 2nd Dem House seat, which would likely be based in Shreveport.

Regardless, Perkins running is 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
