It’s not like the flu, bro!

Only this chart from the 2007 @CDCgov guide to pandemic preparation says in terms of mortality it’s just like a Category 2 flu pandemic (Category 1 is a typical year).

Know what actions the CDC proposes for a Cat 2 pandemic? Here’s a hint: not much.

Now maybe some folks on Team Apocalypse are going to argue it sneaks into Category 3. I disagree. But even so the report basically lumps 2 and 3 into a single group for most responses.

Also btw: they say CFR there but they mean IFR - the math elsewhere makes that clear (they’re assuming a “30% illness rate and unmitigated pandemic without interventions” to reach those fatality numbers).
