Superstitions of Formula One drivers and curious things they carry with them: a thread.

Inspired by the F1 website and Reddit
First up it's Sergio Pérez who keeps a photo of the late pope John Paul II, whose hand he touched in Italy sometime in the 2000s and he claims to feel a special connection to; and also a picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patron of Mexico
Curious notes: he has also met with pope Francis, and on the pink sticker above reads the quote "Never surrender, never give in. Stay positive, fight and you'll win", put there by a breast cancer patient who won a competition to place it and his name on the cockpit
Sebastian Vettel refuses to enter the car from the left side, and is always carrying a small metal pig + a one-cent coin he found in Indianapolis back in 2007 with him, and also: https://twitter.com/motorsport_geek/status/1283072410082775040?s=19
Tazio Nuvolari, one of the coolest and most mythical racing drivers in history, wore a golden tortoise pendant as his lucky charm. Perhaps not the animal someone whose job is to be fast would like to be associated to, but they were built different back then 😅
Amongst Michael Schumacher's superstitions were: a ceramic amulet wore around his neck, a toy brush from his daughter he always carried in his overall's pockets, and the need to race with odd numbers, even asking Mercedes to give him #3 when he returned to the sport in 2010
Back when Nico Hülkenberg drove for Force India, you could find a picture of Johnny Bravo inside of his cockpit put there by his mechanics as they thought that he looks like him and, of course, they had to do it for the lols 😎
Alberto Ascari was *very* superstitious about his blue helmet. In a test at Monza in 1955, he was wearing a white helmet because his blue one was being repaired after his famous accident in Monaco.

He died on that day, at the same age and the same date of the month as his dad 😬
Robert Kubica kept the name of John Paul II on his helmet and a photo of him in his driving suit. During his recovery after the 2011 rallying accident, he was sent a relic of the late pope: a medallion containing a fragment of a robe worn by him, and a drop of his blood
And I saved my personal favorite for last: back in his Red Bull days, Daniil Kvyat kept a photo of model/actress Bria Myles on his cockpit. Whatever gives you an adrenaline rush before heading out to the track, I guess... 🤭😂
