Morning guys,
I would like to throw a couple thoughts at you guys regarding the funeral home shooting last last night.
Department policy does not allow officers to:
1. Fire at a fleeing vehicle
2. Fire from their own vehicle
and
3. Chases are just about forbidden.

Let's think about this......
Regarding 1 &2
Unless an officer was standing in the perfect location it unlikely an officer could respond, unbuckle, exit vehicle, and return fire quickly enough. More likely the officer would be firing at a fleeing vehicle because these shootings happen in an instant.
Regarding 3
Police chases are borderline forbidden. Last month you will remember that a woman was killed when officers chased a wanted homicide offender who actually carjacked 1 or 2 people during the chase. I'm 99% certain those officers are currently at callback.
If officers violate any of those rules COPA will most likely move to, fire the officers so in this climate the officers not only risk their lives (which they would selflessly do any day) they're risking their livelihood. When you start talking about an officer losing everything-
-they have worked for their entire career they start to weigh the risk.
In this current climate there is even the possibility of being charged and sent to prison for a mistake.
This is what the pandering politicians have done.
Criminals know officers hands are completely....
tied and now they are more brazen than ever. Hate to say it Sam, but the frequency you mention.....
These incidents will become much more frequent than not.
