DELETED SCENES THREAD...
1. So the biggest and most important part that was completely cut was a huge pre-credit sequence that set up the whole film. “Bad Emma” (Mrs Peel’s clone) infiltrates and destroys the secret underground Prospero Weather Laboratory.
This reconstruction (cleverly put together by @fred_owl) uses footage from trailers, BTS material and the film. All set to the actual music by @joelsephmc that would have been used. The track appeared on the official CD soundtrack, even though it was never heard in the final cut.
Cutting the sequence not only denied the film and it’s audience a back-story to start from, but it also resulted in much-loved British actor Roger Lloyd-Pack completely losing his part in the film. He played a scientist who was quickly dispatched by “Bad Emma”.
After the destruction of the laboratory the film would have cut to a scene of Sir August (Connery) playing an organ before panning up to a painting of Emma Peel before leading into the title sequence. Sir August was madly in love with Emma Peel and had created a clone (Bad Emma)
For your information an easy way to tell Bad Emma apart from the real Emma Peel was their differing eye colour. The real Mrs Peel having blue eyes. Also Bad Emma always wore a snake-skin style catsuit and usually wore sunglasses.
2. When the “real” Mrs Peel arrives at Boodles (gentlemen-only club) her entrance was a bit more dramatic than what we saw. The Porter follows her up the stairs and for some reason they cut a short scene of her “taking him out” with judo efficiency, sending him down the stairs.
3. The teddy bear torture scene! In this notorious sequence Sir August (in teddy bear suit) rhythmically slices up a Prospero scientist’s face, set to classical music, with his sharp staff. Sir August needs to know secrets about the Prospero Program that only the scientist knows.
Sir August successfully gets the last secret (the relationship between protons and ions to cloud mass pressure). This information from the scientist is the key to Sir August making his own Prospero Program. At the crescendo of the aria, he plunges his staff into the scientist!
4. Lots more scenes of Steed and Mrs Peel in the Bentley. Particularly travelling to and from the Ministry at the start where the two are getting to know one another. Also a scene where Steed puts the pedal to the metal in order to avoid Sir August’s henchmen in their Mini.
5. Not exactly sure where this scene fits in, but Steed is clearly on his own. The Mall in London had to be closed especially to film this, only for it to be completely cut out of the final cut. What a waste of everyone’s time!
5. Lots more scenes at Wonderland Weather where Steed and Peel go snooping while Tamara ( @Misskeeleyhawes) is distracted.
Director Jeremiah Chechik has also told us there were MORE teddy bear scenes! Besides the opening sequence being cut he said that sacrificing the teddy bear scenes was the most painful as they were his favourite...
5. In this cut scene Steed gets off the Mobile Ministry, to Brenda’s ( @carmenejogo) regret...
6. In this behind the scenes frame corresponding to the end of the croquet match scene, Father (Fiona Shaw) walks off the edge of the hill while Sir August warns "Mind how you go"... Another scene cut.
7. In the theatrical cut, Mrs Peel’s Jaguar simply explodes after the mechanical bee chase. In actual fact, during the chase a trail of petrol from the Jaguar’s punctured fuel tank is shown and provides more continuity for the explosion.
8. In the Love Maze scene, Bad Emma emerges from nowhere and karate chops Steed. Whereas in the original cut, Mrs Peel first comes across Bad Emma. They finally meet and look each other up and down before Bad Emma runs away
In this deleted scene, Sir August finds comfort in his boyhood clock whilst waiting for the countdown till the start of his own Prospero Program to bring the world to it’s knees.
Bad Emma tries to parrot the real Mrs Peel in reciting cloud defintions. Sir August is angered and yells at her to "bring her back". Bad Emma's wicked look in return suggests hurt feelings and a vow to kill Mrs Peel so that she can have Sir August for herself.
Another cut was Sir August’s car. Shortly before heading to the World Council, Sir August steps into his Rolls Royce Snow Plow! (driven by @eddieizzard).
Shortly after Steed and Mrs Peel arrive on Serpentine Island (in their inflatable balls!) Sir August emerges from the shadows, grabs Emma, and threatens to kill her. But ends up releasing her. This explains her inexplicable unease before she and Steed crowd into the phonebox.
Lots more explosions and drama in the finale too... You may have noticed We’ve stopped numbering now as there’s so many and they’re all dotted about everywhere. And these are only the ones we know about from video evidence and the screenplay. We’ll add more that we’ve missed...
More of Mrs Peel in the padded cell talking to Father after being falsely (who works for Sir August)
A shot of John Steed from a deleted scene.
