I didn’t think people were actually doing this until I saw people on FB asking for kids to “join their learning pod”...challenge yourself and notice the privilege. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/22/opinion/pandemic-pods-schools.html
This “learning pod” selling market to get families to sign up includes hiring a teacher to watch the group of kids daily
I know there isn’t a perfect solution or maybe a plan hasn’t been shared, but here’s something to consider when making your fall plans
1. If you’re considering a “learning pod,” to pair with your child’s learning....use the district online learning plan and your child’s class. If you only expose children to the small pod that limits their diverse knowledge of peers and people
2. Think about who you are and aren’t including in your child’s daily routine. If they’re in a “learning pod” who was invited? Would any of these children in the pod qualify for support services, free & reduced lunches, etc?
3. If the “learning pod” was created to cover childcare what’s your plan when someone in this larger group gets sick?
