Just read a comment, in relation to the times article. It refers to the regions as place you ‘learn your craft’. I know that what the person is saying is supposed to be in defence of regional. But a habit we HAVE to break is that people see regional theatre as...
A place in which we are learning/getting it right/building up/learning/training/developing/etc etc...
If you see the west end or that there LONDON, as the place to get top end work, from the best of the best then good luck to you. Let me know when you find it. The arts is not just about being London centric. In fact that’s very boring.
Like I said, it was meant in a way that was in support. But it’s negative and also very damaging. Sadly people who hold the keys to these places also think that they are our jewels. There’s plenty of people who will never access theatre
And the arts in the city because they will never travel there. Whether guys financial or personal choice. So our theatre landscape in the regions becomes vital. That’s not just building based. That companies, communities, centres and clubs.
Long may you live and not just be a place to learn the ropes
