Even though they had been rehabilitated and had been added to ST list long back,they hadn't been given political representation. Even though their population was concentrated in Uttara Kannada, Belagavi and Dharwad districts of Karnataka they were denied political representation
because they weren't electorally dominant .Today , a member has been nominated to give them political representation.
This is also an answer to the ones which call BJP as "anti Dalit and tribal" party. Though their population is less ,fact is BJP has given them a political voice.
