MATEO KOVACIC - BACK TO HIS NATURAL HABITAT

Against Man United Kovacic was back to his original best. You wonder why? Well sitting deep and driving from there comes naturally for him. He's simply not an attacking 8 but a devastator from deep...

1/7
Exhibit 1:

He is always there to support the build-up. When opposition press, he is at his potent best. Look how he navigates past 3 United players to open up the midfield. Eventually drawing a foul.

This type of play will be crucial against Liverpool...

2/7
Exhibit 2:

Once again staying deep with the defensive unit and helping them build from the back. There is simply no better ball carrier in the PL than Kovacic right now.

- Excellent link up with Willian
- Drive through the middle
- Opposition opened up

3/7
Exhibit 3:

It's just in his nature to float straight through the middle of a crowded pack. This is what he does best, picks the ball up from the middle and destroys the opposition set up to expose their backline.

This is exactly how we will hurt Liverpool...

4/7
Exhibit 4:

Without the ball, he is one busy player. He presses well and hustles the opposition to making a mistake. From there the opposition falls into a trap thinking they can win the ball back. However, Kova lures them in to put line-breaking passes.

5/7
Exhibit 5:

As mentioned in the previous example that he is super busy without the ball. When the opposition is camped in their own half, Kova makes sure they stay there as he is very alert about where the counter could come from.

This type of pressure will suffocate LIV!!

6/7
Overall, no matter the formation, Kovacic will be an important factor against LIV. His tenacity & drive from deep could open the game up.
