Thread time! On #TheArsenal. If you compare the social media reactions to Saturday to yesterday, you would think you were talking about two totally different teams but you kinda were! My take and it’s only my opinion and I’m usually wrong...
This squad is no where near being consistent and the league table doesn’t lie. It’s been a disaster of a season. The fa cup offers something unique and with only 3 domestic trophies, every single one is big. This time round, we are relying on it to provide our route into Europe.
I don’t think anyone believed we would win on Saturday, I certainly didn’t. But that highlights Mikel’s tactical ability & demonstrated how he can get the best out of the team. Many then thought ‘we beat city so how can we lose to villa’ - but it’s quite simple for me.
1. Hangover to Saturday / playing without the ball for 2 games in a week.
2. Villa sitting meaning we have to create, rather than get goals on the counter (as we did last week)
3. Rotation of players - we ain’t that good!
4. Not wanting to get injured or suspended & miss final
Consistency will come but no time soon, it needs:
1. Coaching of players
2. Mentality of winners
3. Smart recruitment
4. Development of youth.

All that takes time. We’re more likely to win the Europa(if in it) than finish 4th next season.
I don’t agree with the ‘not being in Europe will help our top 4 chances’ because:
1. We’ll still struggle against teams like villa
2. Consistency won’t improve over night
3. Mentality won’t change overnight.
4. We need the cash!
We are the same team as we were two weeks ago, despite the city or villa game. Issue is, there is such an extreme reaction to every game. Look at the headlines from Sunday and today.
Even David Luiz is a great example. Ex pros on sky saying he should never play again after the first game & on Saturday, saying how he has improved so much...NO.

He is the same player. At Chelsea in the end he did well in a 3 but still had an error in him. Nothing has changed.
But when he doesn’t make those errors, he looks awesome and that’s what happened on Saturday. In a cup game, where mentality and motivation were high.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we lost / drew to Watford but won the cup final. That’s were we are at the moment. Can be good on the day and learning how to defend as a unit which is needed in one off games.
Everything else will take time. We’ll get the city game but equally will get the villa game next season!
