Mini Thread: Arsenal’s season by the numbers. The statistical realities of a season which leaves Arsenal finishing outside of the top 6 since before the Wenger era. Areas of improvement and my transfer priority list explained.
In this thread I will be highlighting different statistical areas where Arsenal can look to improve this summer through the transfer market. All numbers are provided via StatsBomb. I hope you enjoy the analysis!

First, a positive. Clinical Finishing. Arsenal have been very clinical despite the limited chances created.
Goals/shot: 0.13 (1st)
Goals/shot on target: 0.36 (2nd)

Chances have been hard to come by at teams, but Aubameyang has shown us his class with his incredible finishing.
Defensive Aggression
Interceptions: 327 (20th)
Tackles: 580 (15th)
Aerial Duels Won: 46.2% (19th)
Recoveries: 2930 (20th)

Arsenal need an athletic defender that can compete in the air and need a central midfielder who can bring more aggression and athleticism to the midfield.
Shots Conceded
Shots on Target Against: 184 (19th)
Saves: 139 (1st)

Where would we be without these two? Huge credit to Inaki Cana for his development of these two since their arrival. A very bright area of the is the goalkeeping department.
Creativity
We know Arsenal have struggled with creativity massively this year. Here is where they rank in some key creative statistics.
Assists: 33 (9th)
xA: 28.5 (13th) measured based on passes that lead to a shot.
Progressive Passes: 1409 (10th)

Mid-Level Creativity.
Things will get better, but investments need to be made. This summer will be tricky given the revenue losses among all KSE run teams, not just Arsenal.
My transfer priorities this summer would be in this order.
-Attacking Midfielder
-Center Back
-Central Midfielder
An attacking midfielder is the most important slot to fill because we do not have any in the squad. Ever since Ramsey left and Ozil fell out of favor there is no option for a #10 to select. Ramsey needs to be replaced with a young and promising playmaker ESR can understudy.
In order to play the expansive style Arteta wants to play Arsenal need an athletic center half that can win aerial duels and cover for others' mistakes. Since prime Koscielny, Arsenal’s back line has gotten old and gets athletically overpowered on counter attacks and set pieces.
Finally, a center midfielder. Arsenal also lacks athleticism in midfield. Xhaka and Ceballos are both great passers, but when defending they are not catching up to many players. Arsenal need a commanding center midfielder that will allow those in front to press more freely.
All in all, there are a lot of areas to fill in this summer. This summer will tell us a lot about Arteta’s vision based on what positions we sign- even if we have limited transfer funds. I will be doing a more detailed writeup on this for @LTArsenal in the next week or two.
