I don’t think I have ever been as disgusted at the arrogant, sneering, elitism emanating from certain quarters of Twitter as I have been the last couple of days. The patronising conviction that anyone who doesn’t vote the same way as you *must be* brainwashed or stupid...

...cosmopolitan enough, while refusing to listen to their reasons or respect their views; they are back on those metaphoric horses, beating down the masses because they do not hold the correct views. The very foundation of democracy rests on the principle of one man, one vote..

..whether a farmer or a financier, a single mother on a council estate or a law professor, whether they come from Blackpool or Barnstaple, they none of them are experts in everything, but they are best placed to judge their own lives; and in the equal society we strive to be...

..their views are equally valid.

So instead of trying to take away their suffrage, focus on your own message, and why it wasn’t universally popular.

And consider this:
Maybe the ‘masses’ respect their democracy too much to risk voting for people who quite clearly don’t?
