A few months ago, I joined the unit of lawyers @ICRC who work on « national implementation of #IHL » (aka the @ICRC Advisory Service). People often ask me what we do, so I put together this little thread...
Many of you may be familiar with the thematic Fact Sheets, model laws and ratification kits produced by the Advisory Service to support governments implement their international obligations: https://www.icrc.org/en/war-and-law/ihl-domestic-law/documentation
Some of you may be aware that we maintain a database of State laws & case law that implement #IHL domestically. We categorize them by State & by topic: https://ihl-databases.icrc.org/ihl-nat
Some of my brilliant colleagues who do this work around the 🌎 include @ihlyai @anquintin @SarahMabeza @sehyr @AhmedAlDawoody @Myriam_RJ @Etienne_Kuster I wish more of them were on Twitter ...
I personally oversee the work we do globaly to train practitioners & policy-makers in the relevance & best use of #IHL to address humanitarian issues. And I support National Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies on #IHL dissemination.
Fun trivia 1: Our current Director of Law & Policy @HADurhamICRC was a lawyer with the Advisory Service back in the day... Does anyone know where?
Fun trivia 2: Next year, we will celebrate ❓years of the creation of the Advisory Service - do you know how many ? 🎂
