Fifteen years ago today, police shot and killed Jean Charles de Menezes at Stockwell tube station. The woman who was gold commander of that operation, Cressida Dick, is now Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police.
If you remember that killing, do you remember the stories about "suspicious behaviour" at the time? That Menezes' tool belt looked like a suicide bomb? He wasn't wearing one. That he jumped the barriers, running into the station? He went through them normally using his pass.
Do you know what one of the surveillance officers considered the clinching proof that he was the right suspect? That he had "mongolian eyes". For this he was shot seven times in the head with hollow-point bullets.
