Fellow year 7 teachers. Take care. Many of the books we ‘think’ of as ours actually moved to KS2 a long time ago. Personally I would avoid any Morpurgo for this reason (although still have some on suggested reasons). Books like Holes and Wonder are also regularly done. 1/4
If, like me, you have too many feeders to have discussions with them all, follow KS2 colleagues on here. This gives you a feel for what texts they will have read already. And, the level of presentation, care and detail they are expected to put into their work. 2/4
The progression is into analytical writing on the texts. I think we should be supporting this element more alongside having higher expectations of SPAG and presentation. Year 7 are capable. Remember they were the biggest in their school with responsibilities. They don’t 3/4
Lose that. They need help with finding their way and negotiating organisation and making new friends. They don’t need us to have low expectations of their work. The KS2 curriculum is complex and we do them a disservice by not building on it. End rant. 4/4
