THE LORE OF THE IMAGINATION INSTITUTE AND HOW IT CONNECTS TO DISNEY MOVIES FROM THE 1960’s-1990’s: A THREAD
Most Disney films from the 1960’s-1990’s take place in MEDFIELD and MEDFIELD COLLEGE.
These movies include THE ABSENT MINDED PROFESSOR & FLUBBER, THE SHAGGY DOG AND THE SHAGGY D.A., THE COMPUTER WORE TENNIS SHOES, AND HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS (allegedly).
Among the doors in the attraction are PHILLIP BRAINARD (The Absent Minded Professor/Flubber), DEAN HIGGINS (The Dean of Medford College), and a pair of tennis shoes and a Medford “M” letterman jacket with a room of computers saying “no tennis shoes allowed”
If you notice, BOTH PHILIP BRAINARD AND WAYNE SZALINSLI have awards for their inventions. PHILIP BRAINARD IS A PROFESSOR AT MEDFIELD COLLEGE!!!
Additionally, in the Figment comics, Professor Brainard is said to have visited the Academy Scientifica Lucida from Medfield College where Dreamfinder and Figment attend!!
Upon researching the Imagination Institute, their important and number one ally is none other than MEDFIELD COLLEGE. EVERYONE REFERENCED IN THE ATTRACTION IS FROM MEDFIELD AND/OR MEDFIELD COLLEGE.
And the fact that pretty much canonically Professor Brainard and Dreamfinder may have interacted or knew about each other at least!!!
I.e. why there is a DEAN FINDER door! Not just a reference to Dreamfinder but also for the fact that he has connections to what is now the Imagination Institute and Medfield College.
Therefore, nearly hidden all of these years, the Imagination Institute is one of the biggest lores spanning science fiction Disney live action movies from the 1960’s-1990’s.
Medfield College “M” and Medfield College letterman jacket in Journey into Imagination w/ Figment (also the sign referencing “The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes”)
References to Professor Phillip Brainard/Flubber/Absent-Minded Professor and how the remake of the movie and photo in queue (w/ Robin Williams) parallels the original w/ Professor Ned Brainard. STILL A PROFESSOR AT MEDFIELD COLLEGE!
I’ll add more as I go along but this has got to be the greatest secret lore in all of Disney movies.
