The left can't just pretend that a sudden change in governance will produce a clean slate.

The cultural capital of the US is 400 years of white supremacist, capitalist hegemony. Nothing but.

Don't be fooled into thinking you can shape these institutions. Abolish is best. https://twitter.com/YDSA_/status/1285702547110612998
I really like the idea of abolition, and moving the funding into new institutions and resources for social care, youth services, etc, normalize the non-criminalisation of mental health and drugs, etc.
Whatever happens, it needs to be a fresh start, top to bottom. The police are a highly trained, highly strung, highly racist and violent reactionary force whose institutions are culturally and functionally irredeemable.

By all means provide job replacement, etc, but abolish.
This is America, 2020, not France over a hundred years ago.

What would a "police of & for the working class" actually look like, actually consist of, across the vast expanse of the US?

You've not got great tools at your disposal, is my point. Like a pick-axe against a mountain.
But it's never gonna happen at scale. Maybe the odd city here and there. Not until this system really collapses.

So theorise all you want. Probably quite urgent. Just my two cents: remember the US population will still largely be instinctively anti-left, racist & capitalist.
