it's unfortunate that puritanical christianity that's bled into indvidualism and capitalism is america's culture because man it's made some fucked up ways of thinking
and it's weird because it's made this big group of american christians that don't see how capitalism and individualism don't align with actual christian beliefs??? not all christians obviously, and not limited to christians also but like, it is A Thing
jesus talked so much about helping people and moreso helping people as a community? yet american christians only want to vote in ways to serve their (individualist, capitalist) ways of thinking and are violently opposed to voting in ways to like... help people as a community..
because christianity bleeding over into capitalism and individualism has become like, the living motto of ~god helps those who helps themselves~ which isn't even from the bible!!! that's like literally the opposite of the point of god???
and I think most (mostly white) americans who aren't religious aren't actively thinking that their beliefs about political stuff is based in christianity but like.. going way back that's what the culture you were raised in was based in so,
but also it's wild to me that specifically christians can read how it says in the bible that we should leave judgement up to god and just be loving toward people who are "bad" and then go "well they deserved the death they got if they talked back to the police" like ??????????
like how can they glorify capitalism as an idea which is inherently greedy and about getting ahead of someone else, and think hm yes, this aligns with god telling me to help others and not be concerned with material things
and it bleeds over into this thinking of like, if someone is poor, that's their fault, they should've tried harder, I don't want to give my money to people I think don't try hard enough, and there's no end to it, they always think you should have tried harder, there's no one that
is ever justified for being poor so like... that makes jesus' whole "help the poor" thing kinda pointless, if you don't want to help the poor who don't try hard enough and you don't think there's any limit to how hard someone should try to be justified...
and then there's the whole, "there's plenty of churches that help the poor/homeless/etc so they have no excuse" but like if you want helping the poor to be separate from your govt like you gotta have all your religious shit separate from it too
plus like, a lot of churches/christian organizations stop helping if you don't become christian or act like it which is shitty like jesus said to help people who need it for the sake of showing love because love=god not as a tricky scheme to get god more followers
and like, christians I've known don't see that they're doing that, it's more just a normal selfish human response of "they didn't accept the truth I'm showing them they're ungrateful" but like.. i don't remember reading jesus saying like "show gods love but then stop if ___"
anyways i will stop ranting honestly I wish america would just break up into separate countries already
like i meant to just say it's fucking weird that an american christian will tell you they think it's morally wrong to mandate that you gotta share and yet morally right to mandate violence against those who they consider lazy or wrong
also how it's fucking weird that so many (mostly white) americans find the idea of actually helping people rather than punishing them violently absurd and somehow morally wrong or impossible?? that it would be absurd and morally wrong and impossible to redirect money that way??
because "people like that won't change or be helped" or some shit, or it's not efficient or economical, not considering that the entire system is working against so many people, on levels big to tiny, and have the audacity to call people fighting to help others despite it being
less efficient or economical morally weak??? like huh?? like it's just so clear that they don't actually care about helping people or doing what's morally right, they just want the comfy status quo that's in their favor, and like, the pretty mirage of capitalism
but also the whole issue of, less efficient and economical for who... why do you think the system is only supposed to benefit a certain type of people.. how do you not see that's just you being blatantly selfish...
