I get so tired of being reminded that oppression feels like fiction to white people. You are not in a fucking movie. This is documented history.

We also can't breeze past the fact that white people feel more affinity to a movie about the future than they do to actual history that happened to actual American citizens. He didn't reach for the Civil Rights Movement. He reached for a fucking Tom Cruise movie.

This makes me so upset, because it underscores how we are not seen as human. Not seen as American. The fact that our actual parents and grandparents experienced this same oppression in these same streets in the not to distant past just doesn't register. They need Tom Cruise.

And that's why we are here today. Because it wasn't real to white people. Even though it happened to real humans who are still alive and who have been telling the story for generations. It still wasn't real. Because we didn't count. Fuck.
