Short thread: If we had a clear idea of where the virus was spreading in Victoria right now, the state might be able to target localised interventions to restrict transmission.

Eg if we know the problem is primarily in meatworks (hypothetically) then focus attention on that 1/5
But there is a gigantic gigantic backlog of cases under investigation at the moment. 2/5
We don't know the source of infection for almost 1,900 cases right now (and that will grow today).

It really seems like public health teams are badly overwhelmed.

Which means the Vic government may be forced to enact new city-wide rules, when localised rules may have sufficed if testing and tracing hadn't been overwhelmed. 4/5
From here, every day new cases continue to trend upwards, the higher likelihood the six week lockdown will need to be extended. 5/5
