My Grampa lived in a cottage on Inchbelle Farm, Kirkintilloch, from 1996 to 2014.

The cottage is estimated to be around 200 years old, but I recently learned it was the site of Early Bronze Age Pits.

That’s around 1600-1800 BC, so we’re talking nearly 4000 years ago https://twitter.com/calmdownlad/status/1285682149644013570
Anyone who knows me will know I’ve always spent a lot of time with my Grampa, and when he first moved in, he said he thought it was haunted.

I believed him and one of the first of my regular Fridays there, watching Friends, eating a Chinese, things started getting weird.
He had a sound system for the TV and it kept switching off on its own, so I’m on immediately high alert.

Then, the 3-disc CD player turns on, CHANGES DISC ON ITS OWN, and starts playing music.

My nappy is filling to the brim by this point. Full scale petrified.
The TV sound system is still playing up and then it just all stops. Weird stuff like that happened all the time but I still felt safe when my Grampa was there.

But when I went to the toilet/kitchen, my skin crawled. I could just feel something there and it made me feel terror.
Genuine terror. It didn’t help that he said he thought there was the spirit of an old man there, I can only describe it as feeling unwelcome and feeling watched.

Sometimes I physically couldn’t cross a doorway out of being paralysed by fear and sensing someone blocking it.
There was always footsteps in the night, the memory makes me feel physically ill.

He had a cat called George, who was a total prick, and he used to just sit and stare at a sort of wooden/hanging chair my Grampa had in the corner, and then watch something walk to the door.
I’ll probably remember more wee incidents over the next wee while now, I’ll ask my Grampa tomorrow for some specifics that he remembers.

One thing I have realised: I should have got my Grampa to absolute fuck about 20 years ago. That was traumatic at the time.
