Read it to discover some interesting facts. Did you know, for instance, that in a city where Latinos are almost half of the population, in a state where Latinos are plurality, only 13% of @latimes reporters are Latinos, and only 11% are editors? As @Scrface87 would do: #SomosLAT
Despite problems we address, @latimes has probably never had better collection of Latino reporters than now. Vets like @LATvives @hugomartin @palomaesquivel @brittny_mejia youngsters like @vegapriscella @r_valejandra @DoranyPineda90 doing stories that hit local/national #SomosLAT
Then you have people who rarely get bylines but whose work is ESSENTIAL to making @latimes as awesome as it is: @A_MartinaIbanez @fidmart85 @gabbfern and my fellow cargaderense @stevesaldivar. Follow them all and also @theCindyCarcamo @BermudezWrites and SO MANY MORE #SomosLAT
I tweet all this from position of privilege: I've hosted 2 podcasts at @latimes. I'm the only Latino features/enterprise/narrative reporter (aka I can write about anything). If I have an issue, management will listen to me. I don't take that privilege for granted #SomosLAT
That's why I want management to make @latimes a place where more Latinos can get chances the way I have. That's why I want SoCal high school/college Latina/o/x reporters to see LA Times as their paper instead of the hometown publication that ignores them/their stories #SomosLAT
