THREAD - I don't trust Donald Trump. I don't trust his attorney general. I don't trust his administration.
They think police reform is a joke, their investigations and communications are politically driven, and they repeatedly attack people of color. (1) https://blockclubchicago.org/2020/07/21/federal-agents-coming-to-help-manage-violent-crime-but-lightfoot-insists-secret-police-action-wont-happen/

Chicago certainly needs help from the feds - funding, specifically. COVID-19 has blown a hole in our budget. Our affordable housing crisis has worsened, with mass evictions and foreclosures around the corner. (2)
Our local businesses are struggling to stay afloat, and unemployment benefits are about to run out. Climate change is blanketing our city with heat, water, and toxic air. (3)
To all of these needs, Trump has responded with silence. Indifference. Instead he attacks us for being diverse, for being inclusive, for believing government has a role to play in keeping folks healthy amidst a pandemic, and in reforming our police amidst protest and pain.(4)
We don't need nameless federal agents in unmarked vehicles surveilling, arresting, and carting off neighbors who are protesting for police reform and the removal of racist monuments. Nor do we need federal agents roving our streets in search of neighbors to detain and deport.(5)
Chicagoans already lack of trust in law enforcement. Letting the Trump administration in will only make things worse. We need bold, transformational investment in our communities and in each other. (6)
The Trump administration couldn't care less. We know what President Trump cares about. And Chicago ain't it. (7)
