So I've talked a bit about the creation of the MadVillain album but I haven't much talked about Viktor Vaughn. I had the dubious (unpaid) job of helping him choose the beats for this project ... https://twitter.com/noyokono/status/1285354310671441928
First of all, this album came from he and I going through dozens of beat CDs from the guys who owned this label and produced this record. Hundreds of beats, perhaps over 1,000. The tracks on the final album were the ONLY ones that came close to being mathematically-correct. ...
So on "The Drop" when DOOM said "Some shit sound like all you could do on fit is riverdance" it was a reference to these tracks. No dis to the guys, they were very cordial, but it was literally not possible to rap on at least 93% of the beats they made.
Since DOOM didn't drive, I had to take him to and from these sessions. The first day, I sat on a couch while he recorded. For the remainder of the sessions, I got him inside/settled in and waited in a van parked outside in Brooklyn listening to Jazz on the radio. FOR HOURS.
I remember sitting in the van starving, wondering should I venture inside for some rations. I decided against it, wandered & found an amazing pizza spot with a huge cheese slice. That was by far the most memorable van moment. People loved the album though, so as usual, worth it.
For anyone who thought MV was a fluke, I was involved in many aspects of the run of his best projects. Some of what you hear was sampled from my record collections. Final albums you love I helped select/edit beats. Projects that came out I helped negotiate the deals. + much more.
Didn't expect for SO many people to be interested in these tidbits of information. While I gather my thoughts, check out this interview I did with @thekitchenmix featuring one of DOOM's favorite recipes. http://thekitchenmix.com/rappin-with-walasia/
