Friend: oh I’m building this thing today *sends pics of parts*
Me: oh ... uh .. same *sends PowerPoint charts*
I never heard this enough in school, but so much of engineering is about communication: how to convey a complex idea or to successfully convince audiences of why your ideas matter
So if you’re out there studying or already in a career in a technical area, take the chance to tell stories and work on communication. And also ask folks what worked and didn’t! Repetition of bad storytelling will not make you better.
And be aware that some of your job will involve charts. Don’t think of that as a bad thing, think of it as a medium for stories. A good presentation can really make or break a path for a project. Great storytelling can mean entire missions.
