Just as it’s been for decades, the #FY21NDAA is a license for endless war, a giveaway to the weapons industry, and a betrayal of everyday people. But there's a silver lining.

In the first half of this (interminable ) year, we've seen:
An almost-war with Iran
A deadly pandemic
A nationwide uprising against the violence of policing

In this historic moment, the House faced a stark choice: what kind of society do we want?

Progressive champions @repmarkpocan @RepBarbaraLee & @RepJayapal fought for a change: a 10% cut to the bloated war budget to free up for our communities and put #PeopleOverPentagon

93 members of Congress voted yes!! That would have been *unthinkable* a few years ago.

Thanks to people across the country who made our voices heard , one thing is 100% clear: The tides are turning

Next year, expiring spending caps will free us up to *totally* alter our budget priorities. This year, we gave the world a taste of that fight.

In the meantime, we *did* win:

@RepRoKhanna's amdt to block US military support for the Saudi-led intervention in Yemen
@RepBenMcAdams' amdt to STOP new nuclear weapons testing
@RepAOC's amdt to end US support for aerial spraying of poisonous chemicals in Colombia

But in the end, the House failed to pass:

Rep. @Ilhan's amdt to help end the US war in Afghanistan
@RepJayapal's amdt to stop requiring the Pentagon to make "wish lists" for more money from Congress

And didn’t even debate or vote on :

@RepJohnsonMN's amdt to help demilitarize the police
@RepMalinowski's amdt to stop selling bombs to Saudi and the UAE for use in Yemen

Thank you to all in the House who made the right choices — including voting against the final bill — & to everyone who showed the world that the era of limitless Pentagon is ending

As the Senate debates its version... the fight goes on
