I am working on a bunch of posts for Vintage RPG and I did a week's worth on the 1983 LJN Dungeons & Dragons toys. And one of the ones I picked was the Bugbear. Here's one of the photos.
I open up the photos and start thinking about what to write and suddenly, it is like I see the toy for the first time. That bugbear has a gigantic dong.
But no, surely that is an ax or something strapped to his belt, so I google it to get a different angle and...
No, that bugbear has a gigantic dong. But surely there is something wrong with my brain. So I send the photo to several people. @Hambreaker, @UnwinnableDavid, @orringrey and my wife @daisydecoster all immediately comment on the bugbear's endowment.
Just to restate: this is a toy made for children in 1983. It isn't ACTUALLY a bugbear dong. It is a dagger. You can see it in the production drawing on the back of the card. But that sword sure looks like a dong. Like whoa.
Post Script: I showed Daisy the internet photo first and she immediately honed in on the fact that I did not shoot it. So I sent mine and she said, "Your photo is much better. His dong looks more stately." ♥♥♥
