Nearly five months after my last visit to @UkNatArchives I was back there today. I thought that the #AncestryHour community might appreciate a quick review of the day...

The light traffic on the way there made for a good start to the day. The journey, which used to take me an hour and half to two hours, took just 40 minutes on the way there and 35 on the way back. The car park is currently free as part of your pre-booking. #AncestryHour

The staff on the meet-and-greet points were universally friendly and welcoming and their instructions were clear and concise without being remotely officious. #AncestryHour

Signage was clear and simple to follow and, with the exception of one unavoidable bottleneck as you enter the locker area, 2 metre distancing was always achievable. I felt safe at all times. #AncestryHour

The documents I ordered were all waiting for me on a trolley next to my assigned desk. Of course, six documents isn’t anything like enough but my calculation, it’s six more than none… #AncestryHour

I took about an hour and a half to extract what I wanted to from the six documents, so the (nearly) five hours that I was booked in for seemed a bit unnecessary. #AncestryHour

I completely understand the limits that @UkNatArchives have imposed- at least I defend their right to impose them. I think we need to ask anyone who likes to complain about these things whether they’ve ever had a go at running an organisation during a pandemic! #AncestryHour

@UkNatArchives clearly intend to expand the service as and when its safe to do so. I know that I’m in a fortunate position, being able to drive to Kew easily and that others may find the situation more challenging. But it’s all about baby steps, isn’t it? #AncestryHour
