Last night the UK Commons voted not to take back control over trade policy but to leave matters to the Executive. The Wallonian parliament in Belgium now has more say over trade policy than the HOC.
Meanwhile, in Brussels, the EU did not implode but put together a Rooseveltian "new deal" Covid19 package. A real deal with real money, not a smoke and mirrors job.
All of which showed that there would not be a big black hole in the EU budget because the UK had left. Turns out that the EU did not miss the UK that much.
Sort of shoots a hole in the argument "they need us more than we need them". All that imagined UK leverage gone south.
Maybe Barnier should be softly singing as he enters the next meeting with Frosty: "Got along without before I met you, going to get along without you now".
