Management researchers are beginning to publish the first papers of the effect of COVID on companies & work. I want to highlight some of the most interesting findings from multiple researchers, initially drawn from the Twitter thread below, but I am open to other suggestions. 1/ https://twitter.com/pontific8/status/1285448605265014785
This paper tries to figure out how productivity changes when we work remotely by examine chess tournaments. When COVID forced chess players to switch online, they made the same number of errors, but those errors got 15% worse & didn’t improve with time. 2/ http://ftp.iza.org/dp13491.pdf
This cool paper looks at the work email patterns of 3M people and finds that we are working days that are 45 minutes longer, and having more meetings with more people that are shorter in length. Overall, the total time spent in meetings has dropped 10%. 3/ https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3654470
For more forward-looking advice about what to do, this paper with a huge number of prominent co-authors in different sh fields lays out what we know about work that can apply to managing the COVID crisis, and is a useful overview. 4/ https://psyarxiv.com/gkwme/
