In the Dark Era Light Novel, Odasaku says about Dazai:
‘‘That guy is just a child who’s too smart. Just a crying child who’s been left alone in the darkness, a world of nothingness far emptier than the world we can see.’’

Oda’s statement made me honestly super sad. We still
know nothing about Dazai before the age of 14 and how he encountered Mori.
In Fifteen we get to see that he’s able to see through the hypocrisy of the adults in charge around him.
We know that Dazai is able to predict the actions of others like weeks ahead without even being in their near vicinity being imprisoned. It’s like pulling on the strings of marionettes.

For someone being this smart to anticipate the whole world’s movement, life of course seems
just boring, the falsehood of humanity like a heavy weight to carry, which most likely leads to suicidal tendencies.

We don’t know if Dazai ever had a guiding light like a caring parents etc, but we know that a child needs a caring guide to grow up healthy.
No offence – Mori maybe wasn’t the best candidate for that.

Dazai most likely didn’t have someone to reach out for his hand and drag him out of the darkness, leading him towards the light until he met Chuuya, who has been the first one who was able to pick up Dazai’s genuine
interest und curiosity for several reason (I wrote about this before 🙈😅)

Odasaku was kinda “adopting” the orphan Dazai, one among the other literally stray dogs in the series. Oda was able to see every scar and wound Dazai’s trying to hide, but he didn’t judge him.
He just noticed and took care of the person Dazai, acknowledging his feelings to all extent.

He knew that Dazai was searching for the reason of his life in the PM, where life and death are just a stone’s throw away.
Rimbaud’s last words to Chuuya and Odasaku’s last words to Dazai did possibly carry the same intention.

“All people, all creatures. Live without knowing what they really are.”

“Nothing in this world will fill the lonely hole you have. You will wander darkness for eternity.”
We /ALL/ wander through our own darkness, ‘cause no one will ever know the answer to who they really are. We’re all slaves to our perception and our emotions. All we can do is accept that fact (and live the HELL out of this life instead!!!)
Odasaku’s last words for him remain the last trigger for Dazai to leave the Port Mafia.

Dazai is walking on his path through his own darkness, but he left the destructive and abusing environment to find his place surrounded by people “doing the work, that saves people”.
The intentions of his actions changed drastically.

Even though he’s still used to solve problems Dazai-style by walking off alone, holding back information, playing the people around him as his trump cards in a game -
his intentions changed to the better and that’s what the world Odasaku wished for needs the most, that’s what he wished for the lost child of the darkness, his friend, needed the most.
