Rocky Myers is a 53 year old black man with an intellectual disability, who was stuck with an incompetent lawyer and convicted on evidence from a key witness who has since recanted said statement. He was sentenced to death by a judge. https://action.aclu.org/petition/save-rocky-myers

Not only is Rocky dealing with being falsely accused; due to his intellectual disability Rocky canât read past a 3rd year level or tell time on a clock. Rockyâs previous lawyer decided to drop him without notice, and suddenly Rocky had a letter he couldnât read come to him
in prison stating he was past his Habeas Corpus deadline and could no longer file them. The Judge said Rocky should manage his life better. Rocky is in prison with a disability and had no idea his lawyer had stopped defending him. The abelism and racism here sickens and infuriates me. Abelism is terrible to deal with, but this case (like many others) shows an example of the abelism BIPOC specifically go through and face and how it can lead to their Deaths.
