My Nigerian grandma had servants & family in the upper Nigerian government.
My Black American grandma ate squirrels to survive, had racists put glass in her food at restaurants, & was denied a scholarship b/c she was Black, even though she had the best grades in her district.

My Black American great grandfather was so freaking conservative, despite being Black, that he REFUSED AID FROM THE GOVERNMENT b/c he thought handouts were "immoral" & worked 16 hour shifts, 7 days a week, to support his family instead.

There are American neighborhoods that my Black immigrant ancestors were allowed to move into that Black Americans were BARRED from, b/c whites considered my immigrant family to be "exotic" & "more refined" than "the ghetto Blacks we have here."
