From the linked statement: "Russia was either directly responsible or it was culpable *because it lost control of this nerve agent*."
This was Corbyn immediately grasping at straws yet this tweet is being widely cited in his defence. The straw he chose was Kremlin disinfo. https://twitter.com/jeremycorbyn/status/973971196889980929
The *only* people who were advancing the theory that Russia "lost control of this nerve agent" was Russia and various inhabitants of Kooktown.
The 'waiting for the evidence' line is, er, undermined by the fact that the security services tried to show him, as they had shown Diane Abbott, what they knew but he appears to have refused to hear them. Maybe Skwaakie can show us when Jez was briefed?
Have just scanned the #RussiaReport and the Salisbury section pats the UK on the back for securing diplomat expulsions & ignores the infowar that raged on afterwards. No Corbyn mention of course.
Corbyn & Milne used Russian disinfo, continued to use it despite Abbott being briefed and refused themselves to be briefed. For six months Corbyn supporters amped Russian disinfo on Salisbury. None of this is in the #RussiaReport
I have absolutely no idea why the Tories have chosen to leave this alone. That's the one thing here which I don't get. The only reason I can think is linked to the concerns in here about 'domestic politics'.
What Corbyn/Milne did over Salisbury and what they unleashed *is Russian influence in UK domestic politics* in action but because Russia didn't literally pay for it this doesn't count?
And there we are. Well done Deep State!

And there we are again. Thanks, security services/Tories/Russia pundits for handing Osland this.
UK social media has *six months* of this stuff coming out from Corbyn supporters in 2018. The same ones making #CorbynWasRight trend now. This is Russian influence in action.
This isn't good enough but it also isn't good enough to focus solely on the Tories and solely on oligarchs. That is another and just as serious fail. https://twitter.com/gordoncorera/status/1285509754115313666
One other thing. Many of Labour's High Command had form from Ukraine and the Russian invasion a few years prior to Salisbury in remouthing Russian propaganda. Labour also did this elsewhere under Corbyn, such as on Syria.
Narrator: But Corbyn was a 'Putin stooge'. And Nandy has a simple response to this that she could use: Why did Jeremy & Seumas demand 'proof' yet refuse to be briefed?
It's up to Lisa Nandy whether she chooses to push back against this stuff or not. My guess is that it's not going to go away. https://twitter.com/LabourHub/status/1285258467511607296
Threading this https://twitter.com/supergutman/status/975421389229514753 Six months of this we had.
This is being circulated by Starmer's office as rebuttal. The criticism of Corbyn here is all implied. It may work in the Westminster bubble but CCHQ are now saying 'parroted Kemlin lies', which is getting closer to the truth. https://twitter.com/bbcquestiontime/status/974418573878747137
Via @paulwaugh and - whaddyaknow - there's someone in the comments citing the tweet I start this thread with.
Yeah, Russian influence through propaganda is not just about these people. *cough, Morning Star* https://twitter.com/RTUKnews/status/1285902159104663552
There are some extremely good reasons *not to touch RT's license BTW. Not the least because of the retaliation against UK journos which would follow but primarily because RT's reach is overblown. It would barely touch Syria disinfo, for example.

Labour's then leader snubbed his nose at the security services for six months and his supporters deluged social media with Russian propaganda. Almost all of Labour let that happen. No, Starmer did not take a "strong stand at the time."
