David Coles is representing @CBCNS and the seven other media outlets that joined the CBC's application: @postmedianet @CdnPressNews @globeandmail @CTVAtlantic @globalhalifax @SaltWireNetwork and @HfxExaminer.

@NS_Justice @MarkFurey1 @rcmpgrcpolice
And so we are clear on just who is representing whose interests:

Provincial Crown prosecutors are representing the interests of the RCMP and the provincial police watchdog agency, which has been tasked with investigating gunman Gabriel Wortman's death.
. @RCMPNS claims it did its best in trying to deal w. NS mass killer on April 18 and 19, but a reconstruction of events by @HfxExaminer strongly suggests police force made no attempt to save lives by confronting gunman or stopping his spree at any point. https://www.halifaxexaminer.ca/featured/an-epic-failure-the-first-duty-of-police-is-to-preserve-life-through-the-nova-scotia-massacre-the-rcmp-saved-no-one/
The first #RCMP responders did not actively intervene after arriving at scene. After discovering a considerable number of slain victims around a property on or near the road, officers retreated to a point near the top of Portapique Beach Rd. where they waited for reinforcements.
The RCMP did not alert the two municipal police forces on either side of Portapique, in Truro, 20 minutes away, and Amherst, 45 minutes away. This is significant because in both police forces most of the members have tactical training.
“It won’t bring them back, but we need closure, we need answers, we need the truth. Not smoke and mirrors,” he said.

Beaton said he feels let down “in every way possible” by both Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau and Premier Stephen McNeil.
For @BillBlair to suggest that #RCMP are “keen to ensure all of the details of this tragedy are made public” is so out of touch w. what Nova Scotians have witnessed over the last three months, that his credibility is laid bare. #Portapique
@larochecbc @CBCNS “This review doesn’t come close to what the families of the shooting victims have asked for - as recently as yesterday - by a country mile.”

#NSJustice #CallItFemicide #canfem
@mtuttoncporg “Why haven’t you given commissioners the power to order witnesses to testify under oath?”

@MarkFurey1, “I’ll go back to my previous comments.”

*CHECKS NOTES
Anyone else throwing up in their mouths a little bit that this ‘review’ has been orchestrated by two former police officers?

Could the conflict of interest be any more glaring?
@Alicia_Draus “Why have you backtracked on previous commitments that any probe must have the ability to compel witnesses and make recommendations binding?”

Furey pulls out non-answer 3)a from his Rolodex of non-answers prepared by @lauriegrahamNS and @ns_Marilla. #portapique
@stphnmaher who had the early details on GW possibly being an #RCMP police informant https://twitter.com/stphnmaher/status/1286343105994723329?s=21 https://twitter.com/stphnmaher/status/1286343105994723329
Furey will no doubt be @CTVAtlantic @CTVAnchor’s newsmaker of the day at 6:30 tonight.

This should be a must watch.

(Worth reminding people that Furey is currently receiving a handsome pension from @RCMPNS.)

@Tim_Bousquet Both the provincial and federal cabinets have the power to give the three panelists subpoena power. Will your @nsgov do this.”

Furey, “I’m confident in the skills and experience of the panelists.”

Blair, “I agree.”
@NatashaPace “What would you say to families that are telling us today that they are furious with this review that was just announced?”

Furey leans again on “strength of the panel”.
@inklessPW “I could read a list with hundreds of names on it of people who wanted a full public inquiry.

“Who asked for a review that could not compel witnesses?”

Furey, “No one asked for a review.”
I fully expect the families of the victims to ask Nova Scotians from Yarmouth to Amherst to Cheticamp to join them in a mass protest of our @nsgov’s whitewashing of the worst mass shooting in Cdn. history.

Makes sense to take the protest to Mark Furey’s hometown of Bridgewater.
@mtuttoncporg It appears little — if any — of the review will be conducted in open hearings. Terms of reference don't contain provisions to compel witnesses to speak under oath, and info collected in preparation of its report "shall be kept confidential." https://www.halifaxtoday.ca/local-news/ottawa-ns-announce-mass-shooting-review-by-three-person-panel-2585889
@SchulichLaw Professor Archie Kaiser, “This independent review utterly fails to satisfy those public expectations.

“This watered down review is going to frustrate and disappoint the public.” #Portapique
KAISER: “It’s the antithesis of transparency. Everything, everything, that these reviewers collect is going to be held in confidence.”

(In other words, @NS_Justice minister @MarkFurey1, himself a former RCMP officer, just dug his own political grave.) #nspoli
TB: It’s curious that those powers (to subpoena witnesses) aren’t being given to the panel, as that’s what Premier @StephenMcNeil called for on June 20, in response to a question from @globalhalifax reporter @emcsheff.
Archie Kaiser via @HfxExaminer:

“It’s as if they’re living in some kind of alternate reality, particularly on points of independence and transparency that they allege would infuse the independent review. I don’t understand how they maintained their positions w. a straight face.”
