1. #GME has a problem recognising its exclusion of POC. Parents and teachers who are ethnic nationalists &/or who are native speakers of Gaelic don't want to acknowledge this. They think highlighting these barriers will weaken the uptake of GME within Scotland.
2. Racism, gaslighting, dismissal, lack of teacher training, refusal to seek more training exists. This is deeply embedded, embodied and systemic - https://funningandallthat.blogspot.com/2020/01/just-listen-please_2.html?m=1
3. Oppression should ideally instil empathy but it further strengthens the theory of the #armsrace where the oppressed become the oppressors. Conflation between #xenophobia and #racism undermines the hate that #GMEstudentsofcolour experience. This is harmful and toxic.
4. The messages that #GMEstudentsofcolour receive through blatant erasure of their identities is toxic, harmful and has a detrimental impact on their mental health. This needs to be discussed and challenged in Scotland if the #SNP is truly committed to welcoming immigrants.
5. #Racism SHOULD NOT be a partisan issue. It SHOULD NOT be used as a pawn to rack up votes in upcoming elections or to gain more visibility / prominence. POC = immigrants and white people = expats. The language exemplifies existing racism and hierarchies in society.
6. This is a page set up by a few of us who are and have been doing #antiracism work in #Scotland. We want a better life for our children, family and communities. We believe Scotland CAN and HAS TO do better https://www.facebook.com/groups/563379890995768/?ref=share
