[THREAD] on what I think Liverpool need to do in the upcoming transfer window to retain the title, what needs to be upgraded and what players just aren’t up to the standard that we need.

It’s clear that this team needs some fresh faces brought into the mix, if you don’t think we need to invest this summer then give your head a wobble. We’ve finally got our hands on the Premier League after 30 long years, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need to invest - here’s why.

With such a big weight lifted off the players shoulders, they wont go into next season with the same ambition as last season. You need new players to keep the team fresh and full of hunger for success every season. That’s what Ferguson was so good at doing during his era at UTD.

Put the factor of not having the same ambition as last season along with the “top 6” (especially Man City) and the rest of the league all strengthening heavily, it’s just going to be even tougher. We need to strengthen, but where?

We always have to prioritise the PL and CL because of how bad our back up options are. We arguably have the worst back up options out of the top 6 especially in attack. It’s clear we need better back up to fight on all fronts which is what everyone wants us to do.

Starting off with one of the most important positions on the pitch, the Goalkeeper.

Alisson is one of the best Goalkeeprs in the world, we know that. But Adrian has been woeful at times this season. He’s made so many silly mistakes especially against Atletico & Chelsea (FA Cup) which cost us the game in both. Here’s some of his highlights from this season:

If we want to fight for every trophy, we need a capable understudy for Alisson that is a fact. Every big team has a capable understudy except us. Alisson has been injured quite a lot this season and was hugely missed vs Atletico, we’d be in the last 8 right now if he played.

It’s hard to find a good backup, but two that I feel would be great options would be Tim Krul and Ramsdale. Both looking like they’ll be in the Championship next season and I think both Krul and Ramsdale will want a move away. McCarthy from Southampton is a great option too.

The next position I want to address is Left back. We have no back up for Robertson other than a 34 year old centre midfielder. That’s just not good enough tbh, yes Milner always gives 100% but we 100% need natural cover for Robbo, so he can earn that rest when needed.

Yasser Larouci is nailed on to move permanently, Adam Lewis is set to head out on loan and we just can’t still be using Milner as our back up. Surely we have to bring in a left back this summer? We definitely need to, no doubt.

As for options, Jamal Lewis’ name has popped up a lot lately and has reportedly been scouted a lot by us this season. He would be a great option, but also Ruben Vinagre from Wolves who had impressed me since last year.

Onto the midfield. When you look at it on paper, we’re stacked in this area. Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Keita, Lallana, Chamberlain, Milner, Jones, and not to mention Grujic and Wilson coming back from loans. When look deeper it’s not as good as it looks.

Gini can be unbelievable on his day - we all know that. But the past few months he’s been putting in below average, lacklustre performances. His head doesn’t seem here, He doesn’t show his full quality often enough and it’s a shame as he can be unbelievable when he does.

Ox looks a shadow of the player he was before his injury. He doesn’t look like a midfielder, is dreadful on the wing. I just don’t know with him anymore. There is better options out there but I feel he can find his feet again and become a good squad player with a good pre season.

Lallana is leaving at the end of the season, Milner is 34 but is a great player to have in the squad, but with saying that there is reports of a move back to Leeds this summer. Grujic & Wilson look set to be offloaded too.

The player I want us to sign, without doubt, is Thiago Alcantara. What a player he is, he would undoubtably walk in as our best midfielder and also add a new dimension to our play. I feel this transfer will go through by October 5th and why a transfer it could be.

But how does Thiago fair up against our current midfielders?

As you can see, Thiago overpowers all our midfielders in his position. The only one that is close to what he can offer is Keita. If we do get him, he’ll more than likely replace Gini. Not to disrespect Gini as he’s been great for us, but as you can see, he’s superior.

It’s clear we need some new options for attack. Origi just isn’t doing it anymore, 0 goals in 29 sub apps isn’t good enough and if you think he’s good enough because of last season give your head a wobble now. Some cheap options:

Coutinho is available on loan for €9m, is also better than our current options and knows our system. If Mane gets injured, he fills in. Mo gets injured, Mane moves to the right and Phil goes on the left. Willian is a cheaper option for free who is also in fine form.

Outgoings such as Grujic, Wilson, Shaqiri, Lovren, Larouci will be massive for us in signing players this summer. Ben white (expensive option) or Malang Sarr (Free) would be great replacements for Lovren. Here’s my player profile on Sarr: https://twitter.com/ftbsean/status/1278010054248148992

Thanks for the amazing feedback. Would’ve likened to go further with the thread, into more detail with the attacking and defending areas in particular but I had to cut it short. Maybe soon I’ll make a thread and go in depth on the CB and Attacking areas
