➑️SEASON ONE⬅️

I don’t know what I was expecting, but this show is NOT that.

That’s not me saying I don’t like this, in fact it’s very much the opposite. I LOVE IT!!

Everything about it is just fun. It keeps this serious story going but there’s these moments of...
...comedic relief that work really well and help solidify these characters as great additions to the story. At first I was a little taken back by the almost stop-motion look that the show had but looking back the show lends itself to that. It really helps with the style it...
...wants to have.

Aang is a very good protagonist. I love his voice actor too. They are very good with emoting through dialogue and I like the almost fish out of water vibe he has in early episodes.

I also really dug Katara. She’s probably one of my favourite things to come...
...out of this first season. I saw that apparently she’s not a fan favourite and I’m interested to see how her character develops as a result of that.

Sokka, again, is a character I like. He’s the butt of a few of my favourite β€˜comedy’ moments and I like what he brings...
...to the trio dynamic. I also found it interesting what they tried to do with his character at the end of the season.

Zuko, it remains to be seen. I’ve seen a lot of love for this guy and while I see little moments of why, I need more time before I can develop that...
...genuine connection to the character.

Overall it’s a VERY good starting point and I can’t wait to get into season 2!

VERDICT - 8/10
➑️SEASON TWO⬅️

I didn’t imagine this show would take a step up from season one. In fact I would’ve been happy with a consistent level of quality but honestly; this season trumps the first in every single way.
First off, the characters are very well developed. I love how Aang, Katara; Toph and Sokka have grown as a group. From a moral standpoint I’m still on the fence with Zuko. I like him but I’m conflicted on where I think he really stands.
Azula is a pretty good villain. I loved her introduction and she faded a little but I think she works well against the core group. And Iroh is just the grandpa we all wish we had.
I pointed this out to @sithlordolive as I watched early on, but I noticed a BIG improvement in quality of animation. It seems so smooth compared to season one that had more of a stop motion feel. I really dig it.
The story also feels a lot more linear. Maybe that’s because I’m becoming more invested in the characters and their journeys but it just feels fun. It carries on the vibe from season one. It’s a serious story but it knows how to interject that with these little comedic moments.
That’s another aspect I loved. While I think there was a few moments where it was a little on the nose, the comedy hits. Nearly every moment they want to come off as funny, gets at least a smile. The cutesy style and charisma of the cast lend themselves to this.
Overall, a very good season that ups EVERYTHING from the first. I’m not looking forward to season 3 because then there’s nothing after. But we’ll go on anyway and I’ll update this soon.

VERDICT - 9/10
➑️SEASON THREE⬅️

I normally do my verdict at the end but I have to start by asking. Has there been a more perfect final season of a TV show? I mean this was just... it had EVERYTHING!

Literally, every single thing the show does well is here in full force
The character progression is like we’ve never had it. Everyone’s journey really feels as though it’s come full circle. No character ending feels cheated and I love that this show was able to end on such a high.
I wanna especially highlight Zuko who was one of my favourite parts of this season. His character took one of my favourite turns of the entire show, as he learned to find his own destiny, rather than obey and do what is expected of him. His relationship...
...with Aang is fantastic and their energy when together makes you feel like their relationship has blossomed over years rather than days.

Sokka is another character I loved here. Finally finding his place in the group, I loved his his comedic moments became a real...
...part of his serious side, both aspects merged and this really felt like Sokka’s finest hour.

Toph is good too, but I really wanna highlight Katara, because season after season, she has been my favourite character and this cemented that.
Her journey overall is just fantastic, I wanna give so much praise to Mae Whitman because she does so much for this voice performance, you feel the emotion in everything she says. Her arc is perfect and I love everything about it.
This season also had my favourite scene. Well, TWO favourite scenes. Aang’s final showdown versus Ozai and Azula versus Katara and Zuko brought tears to my eyes. Not only was the animation during those sequences STUNNING, there was also genuine emotion behind every strike...
...helped only by phenomenal music to accompany it.

But there is my season 3 review. Keep reading for my conclusion on the show, but first, the moment you know is coming.

VERDICT - 10/10⭐️
➑️FINAL THOUGHTS⬅️

I wanna say this isn’t goodbye. I can’t even begin to imagine the number of rewatches I’m gonna take with this show. I take no hesitation in saying it is my favourite show of all time now. I don’t remember feeling joy like this since seeing TFA...
...for the first time.

There’s just something fantastical, something MAGICAL about everything about this. It has this unique charm that is boosted so much by the cast, the score and the animation. The story is this grand adventure with side plots that don’t feel out of place.
Every episode introduces something new and amazing to the lore of ATLA and I’m so so upset that I can’t go through and relive this again like it’s the first time.
I won’t ever see a show that makes me feel as much happiness and joy as this one. I want to quickly thank @sithlordolive for pushing me into this because I was hesitant at first. But now I realise what I could’ve missed out on.

Goodbye ATLA, we’ll meet again very soon.
