1) We will know when Scotland has got it right for our 4yr olds when people stop asking us for help. As it stands our membership and support continues to grow. Every week we have parents and professionals contact us for information and support.
2) Many parents dont know their rights, some professionals don't know the law on deferral, some parent concerns have been dismissed. Professionals working with children tell us that there is not enough focus on child wellbeing at transition
3) Both parents and professionals tell us that assessments focus on physical and academic ability and parents often are not genuinely contributing to these assessments. Both parents and professionals tell us there is a lack of understanding of what play based learning is,
4) Some schools say they offer play based learning but the teachers tell us that it isn't really play based. The volume of enquiries are increasing just now. Parents are really worried about their 4yr old going to P1 in Aug. They are coming to us- PARENTS!
5) Emotional wellbeing is not deemed a priority for our 4yr old children. What will it take for parent voices to be truly valued? To allow parents to genuinely contribute to assessment and support of our children?
6) To be equal stakeholders in ensuring the rights of our children are upheld and their needs met and thst those needs can be identified by parents too!
7) Some parts of Scotland get this right however the law says Getting it Right for EVERY child, therefore for every one parent that contacts us, we know Scotland is not achieving this. To date we have had hundreds contact us
