Details of Killarney cluster reported by Indo are maddening. 30 people rent a house in Kerry, have a mental weekend, and locals end up at party.

That's the exact carry-on that has a super-spreading effect.

I don't think people grasp the devastation the virus is causing.
Firstly, there's a basic decency element to this, before you discuss personal responsibility for your own health.

I was taught growing up 'you never shit on your own doorstep' - but the only thing worse than doing that, is to shit on someone else's doorstep.
The logistics involved in that party:

-Travel across multiple county lines
-Mass indoor gathering
-Bucket-loads of alcohol

Those are the exact conditions where things can go from 0-60 fast, because you're increasing your risk from very-low-to-high.
If 30 to 50 people are each in contact with 5-10 people in the week after they get home, that's potentially hundreds of people who need tracing.

And that's assuming they even remember who they were in contact with, hungover to bits stopping for food on the way home.
On a personal responsibility level, if people want to risk their own health, that's up to them.

Nobody can force anyone to be conscientious and to wash their hands regularly.

But if we see these scenes replicated again, they won't be just risking their own health.
Yesterday broke the record for most new cases in the world.

The pandemic is accelerating.

I've seen videos of crying mothers who lost children to this virus in the Amazon, I've seen videos of people dying on the streets, hospital corridors & floors in Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.
If people only knew the destruction and misery this virus is still causing, today.

Those early scenes in Italy are not on our TV screens anymore but they're still happening across the world.

It would be the height of Irish exceptionalism to think it can't still happen here.
It can happen here if people act like the virus is gone.

The only reason that Killarney cluster did not cause a large outbreak in Dublin or Kerry is because we have highly skilled people working their ass off on testing/tracing.

That's it. They saved your necks on this.
3 big infected parties, in the whole country, would hand tracers a nightmare task and we could lose track of it.

We are in an incredibly privileged position with the virus.

Our numbers are low and mostly stable, not many can say that.

Don't throw it all away for a party.
