Questions I would ask companies (my exp is mostly startups) in interviews in the future:
What decision has leadership made that resulted in losing trust from the team? What steps did they make to earn it back?
What’s a personal sacrifice you’d be comfortable with an employee making (e.g. working all weekend)? What would cross the line?
What’s an example of a complaint that an employee has made that resulted in a change in norms or policies?
A potential partner with values at odds with the team’s (e.g. fossil fuel company) has the potential to bring in a lot of capital. How do you make the decision of whether or not the compromise is worth it? Is a short term compromise worth the runway to make a long term impact?
What do you think the point of HR is? How is the HR team evaluated? (What are their goals/okrs)
What do you think is the biggest risk that the company faces?
You find out your product or service can be easily exploited by bad actors to harm people. How do you prioritize fixing this? Is it table stakes to prevent abuse or is it an enhancement? If runway was short, is it worse to shut down without ever launching, or launch w/ exploits?
How do you account for bias in hr processes? (E.g. hiring, promotion, complaints)
