Here's a fact about speedrunning that the community should popularize more:
No one has to be "good enough" at a game to start speedrunning it. Just like any skill, people get better at playing games by, well, playing them more, hence where the idea of speedrunning comes from!

I see a lot of people in the general public and fans of the hobby get caught up in this idea that you must be good to start running a game. Nah it's just a matter of playing it more then playing it better. Anyone can speedrun a game. It just takes time to do it well!

If anyone following me ever wants to get into speedrunning and has never tried to beat a game in one sitting, try it some time! Put a timer up and just see what you can do. Don't worry about going fast. Just have fun with it! If you liked it, try watching a run and copying strats
It's all just improvement from there. People tend to improve at their speedgames by just playing them more and gaining more knowledge of it over multiple playthroughs than anything else. Just take it easy and don't stress yourself out and you'll get there in no time!
Now the hardest part of speedrunning is just choosing a game to run for a lot of people. It can be your favorite game, a game you've played a lot, or something you feel like you can play for a short time and beat quickly. Any of these choices is fine as long as you enjoy them!
My first speedgame was Kirby Squeak Squad for Nintendo DS. It's not my favorite Kirby game or my favorite 2D platformer, but it was a game I felt like I would enjoy and could beat quickly at the time. And I enjoyed the crap out of it! Just find a game you like playing and go!
What I'm trying to say with this thread is the idea of speedrunning being complicated or hard to get in to is usually all in your head. It really just is as simple as playing a game and putting a timer on your playthrough. The rest is up to you from there. Now go fast, gamers
