This is a good thread.

I enjoy Twitter. My #1 bit of advice would be that you don't need to engage with everyone who wants a conversation with you... https://twitter.com/mrs_denglish/status/1284749268679622656
There are some on here who have consistently shown malice in their interactions and I won't engage with them at all, even in friendly, completely uncontroversial threads...
They as good as don't exist to me. I don't block them either as they're saddos and treat being blocked like getting a medal...
I use this site exactly how I want to. As a news outlet, a journal, a place to talk about sport, music, politics and the rise of Wokeness and the far-left.

There are people on here who I like a lot and interact with a lot...
And by and large these people to tend to be/have two things:
a) They're genuine, honest people
b) They don't take everything too seriously.

Again I have little time for people who are neither of those things, even if they seem "nice" so I avoid interacting with them...
So many people who get sad about Twitter think they have to interact with every mug who pops up on their timeline to have a go, but they don't.

Don't feel like curating your timeline = an echo chamber either. It doesn't.

Follow people who don't share your worldview and ideology on things but who can talk to you about them without being rude, dismissive, pretentious or whatever.
...
But if, for example, you believe in strict behaviour policies, don't feel like you have to follow the loons who liken things like silent corridors to concentration camps in the name of being balanced or open-minded. You don't.
...
There are plenty on here who share approaches that to behaviour policy and school culture that are very different to mine and these people don't resort to hyberbole and insults on here. Follow those instead.

See Vic Goddard and Callum Witherill as examples.
If you were in a pub, you wouldn't get into a conversation with the people who clearly just want to argue or the guy in the corner who just wants to talk about how great he is, so don't feel like you have to here.
Curate your timelines. Ignore the dickheads. Twitter doesn't have to be an extension of your professional self. It doesn't have to be serious. Use Twitter exactly how you want to use it.

Have a nice time 👍🏻
