Milk on Shiv Lingam - Merciful Lord Shiva choose to drink posion over amrut which appeared after churning The Ocean (Samudra Manthan)
to save the entire mankind including devi, devtas, danavas & other species.

In Shravan the milk turns Poison & so we offer it to the Personality who got the ability to digest it. We even offer milk to snake (cobra) on the 5th day of Shravan,
celebrated as Naag Panchami in many parts of Bharatvarsh, we can also see this vice versa.

Another scientific reason is, milk removes Poison. There are temples of Lord Krishna, like the one at Nathdwara where they soak beatle nut inside milk to remove the poison
content within before offering it to the Lord. In general Beatle nut is very harmful. It can cause stimulant effects similar to caffeine & tobacco use.

So one reason to pour milk on Lords Shiva, as love & respect to cool down the effect of poison in his throat which he drank.
-- Most of the Hindus pour milk on Lord Shiva as complete faith & love without knowing the real reason, which is absolutely fine. This is pure bhakti.

-Many do it after knowing the reason or for some material gains. This may lead to bhakti in future or next birth, still better.
-- Many find faults, saying it goes waste & should rather donate it to poor, this is ignorance leading to materialism.

For the 3rd category type people.
--Lord Desires nothing for himself, he just see's the presence of love when we offer him with something. Our ancestors were so amazing & scientific that they come up with things which would always benifit the entire society.
As Per Ayurved there are 3 Dosha. "Vata, Kaph, Pit" these all 3 needs to be balanced for smooth functiong of our health. When imbalnced, body suffers under many aliments.
Vata Dosha is very prominent in the month of Shravan, the 5th Hindu month as per Panchang. One should avoid milk & green Vegetables as it contains higher amount of Vata components. During rainy season cattle gets a lot of grass to eat & so their milk is high in vata,
when they release their milk it would increase the vata component more in human body so should be avoided
Vata means Windy or airy. The Vata dominating planets & their Zodiac signs are. Gemini, Tula, Kumbha & planets Sun, Mercury, Rahu & Nakshtra
Are Ashwini, Ardha, Punarvasu, U Phalgun, hasta, jyesta, moola, shatbishta, P Bhadrapa.
These planetry conjunctions affects our body Vata dosh at this very moment/conjunction every year.
Space is 360 degree divided in 12 parts, the 12 Zodiac signs, later in 27 parts as Nakshtra & when the Planets, Sun & Moon Rotates under these signs, the magnetic field affects our body.
