It’s about time we have the conversation about body diversity/size inclusion in menswear. I wish there was a black menswear designer that was all about size diversity & inclusion...
We see Anifa (Hanifa) designing for all body types & focusing heavy on designing for curvy black women, it would be nice to see more menswear designers design with men of bigger sizes in mind. Like i LOVE Wales Bonner but her cut & size range is only for a man of a certain size..
I Love Telfar but a cap of XL large in sizes just doesn’t do it. It would be nice to actually be able to fit the clothes instead of always having to buy into these brands via accessories (shoes, bags, Jewelry)...
I know I’m preaching to the choir here because plus size women have been systematically left out of fashion & have been leading this conversation for ions. I just want the same conversation to really really happen within menswear too.
Also there has to be a change in size diversity amongst male models. Representation matters right? Well us big fashion boys wanna see ourselves represented on the runway. The message that it perpetuates is that there’s only one body type & buys into the male standard of beauty.
Ok that’s my rant for tonight, let me go take this medicine and go back to sleep
One last thing lol: it’s like being a spectator of something you can’t participate in, like we have to watch these menswear shows from the sidelines knowing damn well none of it is designed with my body frame in mind
