The logical and illogical fallacies in Jeffrees video, A thread:
One of the many fallacies Jeffree just used is known as the "Appeal to popularity". Its attempting to shift the argument in a more favorable direction (PR wise), which actually creating a new discussion to distract from the old one.
He appealed to popularity be trying to shift the topic to BLM etc.
2. The "fallacy" fallacy (yes thats a real one): Providing a statement that is proven false. He said he has never commited a crime, but there are multiple videos circulating of him doing what appears to be assault. (the staircase video and crotch grab video)
3. Potential "No true-Scotsman" fallacy: Constantly bringing up his species (homo sapien or human) as a tactic to justify his stance among other homo sapiens. Implying that anyone that disagrees isnt a "true" or similar kind of being.
4. Tu quoque: Attempting to shift blame to the viewers/opposition for posing the question. Basically "the internet is toxic and I will not entertain the toxicity", while people have merely asked to hear your side of the arguement.
5. Hasty Generalization fallacy: Expecting the viewer to reach a conclusion while providing little to no evidence. Or potentially incomplete or biased opinions.
6. Ad Populum: Appeal to emotion in place of logic. Being unable to persuade logically, so you move into emotional/pathos based tactics. (No evidence or irrefutable claims, but personal experience and emotion). His signature tactic.
Fallacy of ambiguity (this one has many names, but this is what I call it): Using vague language and double meanings to seem more persuasive. If you begin to replace verbs and nouns with what or who you think he is referring to, the true meaning is revealed.
8. Anecdotal fallacy: Treating and using ones own personal experience as fact or valid argument, in the fact of statistics. "They say Jeffree, all your friendships have gone sour. Yes, but I have friends you don't know about"
and finally 9. Irrelevent thesis fallacy: That feeling of not "getting" anything out of the video, or the video being useless. Yup, this is the word for that.
May add more later if I can think of any... Don't be afraid to chime in if you think of any!
