CBS NEWS: "Beyond Buffalo and Dunedin, the Blue Jays could seek to play games nearby in Rochester, New York (Twins' Triple-A affiliate) or Manchester, New Hampshire (Blue Jays' Double-A affiliate). A decision must be made soon so preparations can be made." https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/toronto-blue-jays-denied-request-to-play-mlb-games-in-canada-for-2020-season/
PS/ The crazy thing about the @BlueJays apparent call not to consider Manchester is that besides an amazing airport minutes from the fully redone stadium here we have a hotel connected to the stadium—you can put the team and all visitors in a safety bubble near the downtown core.
PS2/ I'm as much of a proponent of COVID-19 safety as anyone on Twitter. And I care about the @BlueJays. The setup in Manchester, NH—airport, field, restaurants, logistics, healthcare—is *more* geographically perfect to keep players *and* fans safe this season than anywhere else.
PS3/ So not many people know this, but I wrote all three books of the Proof series at the Toronto Blue Jays AA baseball stadium—a room in the hotel connected to the complex, overlooking center field. So I know it's an ideal setup for COVID-19 safety for the team and its staff.
PS4/ (I know, I know, now folks will say I even connect the Proof series to Major League Baseball! But it's true: I wrote the series at a minor league baseball stadium. I'd actually take writing breaks to watch the regular fireworks, which went off maybe 50 yards from my window.)
PS5/ What may be going on here is we don't know how long the pandemic will go on for it—could be years—so @BlueJays may be trying to determine if they need to become the Buffalo Blue Jays for something like the medium-term. Still not clear on why Florida is even being considered.
PS6/ This is such an unprecedented situation, an argument could be made that the continuation of MLB in Canada is itself imperiled. In that case, @BlueJays may be asking if Buffalo is the *long-term* option available to them now. Manchester clearly seems better in the short-term.
